down with saturated fat
Goal: Cut Down on the Saturated Fat in Your Diet
You need the right fat to live. But, like trans fat, saturated fat is bad for your heart health because it increases blood cholesterol. Saturated fats are present in meat and dairy products, such as pork, marbled beef, butter, cheese, and cream. In place of saturated fat, substitute polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat. Your heart will thank you for it.
Step it up:
Out with the bad, in with the good! Help your heart by adding polyunsaturated fat from fish and nuts, which contain omega-3 fatty acids, and monounsaturated fat from olives, avocados, and peanut oils. These good fats may protect against heart disease, and can help lower bad cholesterol and combat hypertension.
